Whit Fosburgh is President and CEO of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and talked with me about the partnership's namesake. "There is an ethic that goes with being a hunter and that includes conservation. It includes having healthy populations of fish and game, managing them professionally and responsibly. Our role as advocates, as hunters and anglers, is to get out there and make sure that the ideas Roosevelt set in motion over 100 years ago are being maintained today. Roosevelt himself was a very adamant hunter, correct? Huge. He credited the time that he spent out hunting as being what made him a man. he was a weak, sickly child from Long Island, found himself in the woods of Maine, up in North Dakota, and a lot of that revolved around hunting. He killed a tremendous number of animals. But he also had a deep appreciation about what that does for the person. Getting out there, spending time in the wild and he thought that was a key to creating a strong society. So he wanted to make sure that everybody had the same opportunity that he had. Not only bringing meat on the table but just the pursuit."

And as we know so very well, if they are young outdoorsman, the overwhelming majority are very good kids.
