Biopesticide Industry Alliance Seeing Record Growth

Biopesticide Industry Alliance Seeing Record Growth

I recently spoke to the Biopesticide Industry Alliance Executive Director Keith Jones and learned more about their organization.

Jones: "BPIA started about 15 years ago with just five member companies. We've steadily grown to well over 90 companies now. What is driving this grow as population grows in the U.S. as well as around the world — there is greater demand for food production. At the same time everyone wants sustainable agriculture — they want little or not impact on human health or the environment. One of the answers to that problem is biopesticides or natural pesticides. That demand from consumers is making the industry grow. And now in recent years — our heart and blood are our small entrepreneurial companies and we still have a lot of those — but in the last couple of years, we've seen some of biggest international ag chemical companies come into this industry and come into this part of the market because they see the opportunity and the growth."

Jones continues with what kind of growth the organization has been experiencing.

Jones: "We've seen double digit growth — compound double digit growth — for a number of years. The projections are that double digit compound growth is going continue at least through 2020. We are talking 20 percent growth per year. That has a direct impact on our association. We continue to add members almost on a monthly basis — and those members range in size to brand new entrepreneurs up to really large corporations."
