Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: “We had 3,700 tons of hay trade last week. Compared to last Friday, supreme, good alfalfa and export alfalfa was steady to weak in a light test. Trade remains slow, demand remains light. Supreme alfalfa mid-square bales $150 to $155 FOB the farm tarped. Good alfalfa for export at $135. Fair and good alfalfa bottom bales at $108 to $110. Alfalfa small squares bales supreme at $165 that was tarped. Orchard grass for retail/stable market $260.”

In Idaho compared to the previous week good and other grades of alfalfa were steady. Trade was slow to moderate demand. Best demand is from eastern buyers. Mid square bales of alfalfa rated premium to supreme tarped sold for $170 per ton. Utility to fair mid-square bales of alfalfa that had rain damage sold for $75 per ton.

In Oregon, trade generally steady in a light test. Trade remains slow with light to moderate demand. In Central Oregon orchard grass small square bales rated premium for the retail/stable market sold for $240 per ton. In Klamath Basin, small squares of good to premium alfalfa for the retail to stable sold for $200 per ton. In Lake County small squares of alfalfa rated good to premium old crop sold for $150 per ton. In Harney County mid-square bales of alfalfa rated fair with rain damage sold for $120 per ton. There were no new sales confirmed in Eastern Oregon.
