08/26/05 Why I love wine?

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today we conclude a week that we devoted to answering your email questions. This question comes from a listener who wants to know why I love wine so much. Wow - I am flattered that you even care. Why do I love wine? To me that is a topic not meant for a one and a half minute program. But I will do my best to give you some idea of where my passion comes from. I love wine because it is so complex and interesting and no matter how much time you spend with it, you never know it completely. I love it because it is a part of the world's history and because it comes from the earth. And it tells you something about where it was grown. How well it was cared for and about those who decided when to pick it and what style to make it in. The science and the technology are not so romantic, but I find it fascinating, and it helps me to better understand what I am experiencing when I taste wine. I love food and the way wine enhances a meal. I love my friends and colleagues and when we relax a part of our conviviality is hugged by our mutual appreciation for wine. We can differ in our opinions and we relish those differences. I love living in Washington wine country, meeting and talking to people who are involved in the vineyards and the wineries and of course, those who are getting to know wine by visiting us. I have taught about wine, talked about wine and enjoyed wine for most of my life. It is so much of our history and our lifestyle that it is difficult for me to separate it from who I am. I guess the short answer to why I love wine is because it never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for asking - and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
