Cropping Systems Conference

Cropping Systems Conference

January 12 through the 13th at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick will be the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association’s Annual Cropping Systems Conference. Executive Director Kay Meyer shares more about the many different topics that will be addressed during the conference.
Meyer: “We have a total of six general sessions and then we’ve got 30 different break out sessions. We are organizing our breakout sessions into six different tracks this year. We will have one whole track based on crop rotation and cover crops as well as alternative crops like oilseeds, sunflowers and quinoa. We’re looking at a whole track on soil heath and nutrient and pest management. So we will have things like pH and wireworms and topics like that we’re covering there. A whole track on technology and precision ag — so looking at how to build variable rate map soil testing. We have a Direct Seed 101 track — this is for people who are just getting started. So they will learn about successes and challenges and how to over come those from seasoned direct seeders. We’ll have them broken down by rainfall regions so producers can go and learn about equipment, strategies, and programs that these producers are using to transition into direct seed. Then we have a agribusiness track that will be everything from succession to economics of direct seeds — several different topics in there. Then irrigated track and that would be of interested to those farmers that have irrigated ares of their farm as well.”
