Pasture and Range Conditions

Pasture and Range Conditions

In this last week’s Nass crop progress report for pasture and range condition overall across the country 39 percent rated good to excellent and up to 27 percent rated poor to very poor. For most of the country, this past week brought some moisture which should help pasture conditions. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says
Rippey: “But we have seen some slight improvements already reported in the hardest hit states of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. All four of those states still reporting more than 40 percent of their pasture rangeland in very poor to poor shape.”
That actually sounds almost positive when you compare it to the Pacific Northwest states pasture. In Washington, pasture conditions were reported as 62% poor to very poor, 15% fair, 19% good and 4% excellent.
In Oregon, pasture and range conditions were reported to be 66% poor to very poor, 27% fair, and 7% good.
Idaho shows better conditions for its pasture and range reported to be 31% poor to very poor, 33% fair, 33% good, and 3% excellent.
Colorado rates the best of our states with pasture and range conditions were reported to be 19 percent poor to very poor, 28 percent fair, 46 percent good and 7 percent excellent.
