Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran, and today is Food and wine pairing day. Yesterday we discussed Sauvignon Blanc and its many styles today we are going to pair a few of those styles to foods that we all enjoy during the summer.
Sauvignon Blanc is undoubtedly a favorite during the summer months when the weather is hot and we are searching for refreshing wines to enjoy with our summer vegetables and grilled foods. To me one of the most pleasing combinations is a grilled chicken Caesar salad and a nice crisp Sauvignon Blanc. The lemony salad dressing, topped with shaved dry cheese, are flavors that make the fruit come forward in most of the domestic Sauvignon Blanc wines that we serve. When it comes to the salads or marinades made with the addition of mint or basil Sauvignon Blanc has a crisp tartness that goes well with these flavors. Grilled summer squash is a great side dish or topper for a salad and is fabulous with a more "citrusy" style of Sauvignon Blanc. If you like a Dijon-style marinade for meat or a mustard salad dressing again think Sauvignon Blanc. If you like chilled or poached seafood with a dill sauce you are bound to enjoy it even more with one of the herbaceous styles of Sauvignon Blanc. I could go on and on with recommendations for summer faire with Sauvignon Blanc but we simply don't have that much time. If you have a favorite food that you enjoy with Sauvignon Blanc please email your suggestions to me at Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
