Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran, and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time and that is because I simply do not drink wine that I do not enjoy. Most of this week we have been talking about Sauvignon Blanc, today I want to share some of my most recent favorites.
There are so many different styles of Sauvignon Blanc from all over the world that we cannot help but take into consideration the stylistic differences from one region to the next. Let's begin in my home state of Washington where Sauvignon Blanc seems to vary in style by the preference of the producer. One of my favorite wines is made by Apex Cellars in Sunnyside, WA. It is APEX II Sauvignon Blanc and it is crisp and refreshing with just a touch of oak. A couple of other wineries that often make delightful vineyard designated Sauvignon Blanc are JM Cellars and Matthews Cellars in Woodinville, WA. As far as California goes; one of my all time favorite Sauvignon Blanc wines is made by Stags Leap Wine Cellars in Napa Valley California. The tropical fruit fragrance in the nose is gorgeous, but don't worry, it is well balanced on the palate with just the right amount of acidity. Look to New Zealand for some fun to drink citrusy styles of wines. I am so pleased with the grapefruit essences that pop out of so many of the wines. And don't be out off by the screw caps, they are perfect for these wines, that are meant to be consumed when young. There is no wine better than Sauvignon Blanc that will satisfy the hedonistic need for immediate gratification.
