I have known Middleton farmer Sid Freeman ever since I started this job and I think it would be fair to call him Saint Sid because of all the work he has done on behalf of the FFA. He is a former FFA member himself and he believes, as I do, that the FFA is an organization that shapes young lives as well or better than any other. To that end, he is continuing a five year tradition of mounting a campaign to sell raffle tickets for a draw on a tractor. In this case, it's a 72 hp tractor that has been refurbished. Here is Sid: "The first five years, we've had antique tractors. They were donated to us and we had them refurbished. The ag teachers thought if we could get a more utilitarian tractor, we would draw in a larger crowd for ticket sales. We have these big banners to travel all over the state of Idaho with the tractor and we travel 5000 miles a year throughout Idaho with this tractor. We have one banner in every FFA district and we have nine districts and another banner stays with the tractor. We sell sponsorships to businesses that want to align themselves with the cause. So with that money we were able to buy this newer model tractor. It is 40 years old but it is more of a utility tractor. It has a loader on it and a three-point blade. We hope that will get us closer to our goal of selling 5000 tickets."
