Idaho Organic Week & Fishing Restrictions

Idaho Organic Week & Fishing Restrictions. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

This week it's all about organic food production in Idaho as Idaho Organic Week kicked off yesterday. Skylar Jett with the Idaho State Department of Agriculture explains.

JETT: This year for Organic Week we are doing more of a social media online push instead of an event but several of our organic producers have reached out to us that they will be hosting people on their farms to educate the public about organic production in Idaho. And then we've worked with some of our retailers as well so they're going to be offering some of Idaho's organic products in their salad bars and their hot bars. And then we've also been working with restaurants and some of our restaurants and distributors have put their Idaho organic products on sale this week and the restaurants will be highlighting some of the Idaho organic producers.

This is the fifth annual Idaho Organic Week.

Fishing in the northwest is being restricted or curtailed in a number of areas due to the drought. Restrictions include sturgeon, trout, salmon and steelhead. Oregon and Washington officials met last week after high water temperatures and low stream flows had put additional stress on wild fish. More than 80 sturgeon have been found dead on the Columbia River in the last several weeks. Be sure and check with your local fish & wildlife before heading out to your favorite fishing spot to see if there are any restrictions.
