WOTUS Update & TPP Debate. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Rep. Dan Newhouse from Washington is applauding a vote that would require the EPA and the Army Corp of Engineers to withdraw the Waters of the United States rule. H.R. 1732 passed the House on a vote of 261–155. The bill gives EPA and the Corps 30 days to withdraw the current WOTUS rule and charges the agencies with developing a new proposal that balances the needs of agriculture, industry and the environment. Newhouse said he applauds the House for approving legislation to stop the federal government's regulatory overreach in its tracks.

A new report from the Economic Policy Institute called on lawmakers to include enforceable rules against currency manipulation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, as Congress considers a Trade Promotion Authority bill this week. Deputy Under Secretary Alexis Taylor recently said that in a state like Oregon where 40 percent of what the state produces goes to the international market, that reflects what's going on at the national level.

TAYLOR:  To people who see benefits to trade, see benefits the Trans-Pacific Partnership might offer– their respective industry, them personally– to the extent that they think Trade Promotion Authority is important, I think telling that story is important, often and loudly.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
