Pesticide Complaint Form & Sugar Science

Pesticide Complaint Form & Sugar Science. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture has launched an online "Pesticide Incident Complaint Form." Dale Mitchell is the ODA's Pesticide Program Manager.

MITCHELL: Our intent is to make it easier for individuals number one to notify the agency of a pesticide complaint or concern so that the agency can respond to the concerned individual and follow up on that complaint or concern in a more timely manner. It could be spray drift issues, it could be allegations in regards to business practices or licensing or just routine compliance monitoring

American's like their sugar. New research shows that Americans consume nearly three times more sugar than is recommended which is about twice as much as we did back in 1970. An initiative called Sugar Science has been launched by scientists from around the country to educate people about how sugar impacts health. It's based on more than 8,000 studies. Too much added sugar is linked to heart disease in adults and diabetes in kids. Twenty years ago, Type II diabetes was almost unheard of in children. Today, more than 20,000 have it. Too much sugar can also impact the liver and can cause the same disease that alcohol does. Nearly 31 percent of adults and 13 percent of kids now have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
