Oregon Mom Wins America's Farmers National Farm Mom of the Year Contest

The votes have been counted and America’s Farmers 2015 Farm Mom of the Year goes to Albany, Oregon third generation grass seed farmer Shelly Boshart Davis. Her family farm SJB Farms raises wheat, hazelnuts, radish and clover seed and then they bale grass straw for export. The exciting news was announced yesterday, Davis says that interest for this program continues to rise.
Davis: “There were 8,000 votes cast for all of us. So it was a record amount of nominations this year and a record amount of votes cast which I just think is exciting in general. Anything that can promote agriculture is a win.”
Davis is a tireless agvocate for agriculture. I ask who had nominated her for this award and she shares
Davis: “I was actually nominated by a few different people outside the realm of agriculture, our company, our farm, my family even. Including somebody that works for the local United Way Board, I was nominated by the Albany Chamber of Commerce Director and was nominated by my kids’ school principal. All those people had heard me speak on everything from the port issue to the some of the anti-agriculture and anti-rural issues that are happening in our Oregon legislature right now in the legislative session. So that to me is so exciting because so many people are listening outside of agriculture. And like I said before — I call that a win.”
