USDA Provides Extension of Deadline to Update Base Acres or Yield History

There was good news for farmers on Friday who might have been behind the 8-ball in updating their base acres or yield history for participating in ARC or PLC programs. It was announced that the final day to update yield history or reallocate base acres has been extended one additional month so has been moved from last Friday until NOW March 31, 2015.
Washington States Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency Judy Olson shares more about the extension which will now coincide with the final day for farm owners and producers to choose ARC or PLC coverage that deadline remains March 31, 2015.
Olson: “So now, March 31st becomes the deadline for everything. Which means that those producers that have been either waiting or still trying to learn a little bit more when they go in - they go do all of that at the same time. Granted they may have to take some signature papers back to landlords or partners — but they will have the ability to do all of the above when they come into the office.”
Remember if no changes are made to yield history or base acres by March 31, 2015, the farm's current yield and base will be used. A program choice of ARC or PLC coverage also must be made by March 31, 2015, or there will be no 2014 payments for the farm and the farm will default to PLC coverage through the 2018 crop year.
