National Western Stock Show

This time of year, for those involved in the cattle industry — many’s attention turns to Denver during the National Western Stock Show. There are nearly 20 cattle breed shows during the stock show’s 16 day run. Cattle fitter and agvocate Maddee Moore is at the Stock Show this week with Colyer Herefords. She shares what she appreciates about the Stock Show.
Moore: “The Denver Stock Show for me is a pretty unique place. Just in regards to its history. I grew up hearing my grandfather’s stories of of taking cattle on the train from Baker to Denver and hitting the rest of the Pan-America shows. So that to me is huge f— and still seeing the trains go through the yards and still having the same cobblestones there and a lot of the same panels in different areas and woodwork is huge for me. And yet knowing that the show has continued to evolve and represents the next innovation and the next generation of quality genetics that are enhancing the beef industry.”
I asked Moore what yesterday’s show results were
Moore: “We had one division champion with a polled bull calf. Then our big bull calf Stockman who was Reserve National Champion last year, didn’t have the day we thought he’d have, but he looked great. So it was an exciting day.”
Last April you may remember Colyer Herefords’ 2014 Denver Grand Champion Bull C Miles McKee sold for a record-breaking $600,000.
