Russia recently imposed a new ban on US and European food products. The sanctions are related to the conflict in Ukraine. Russia has not been a major market for US pork in recent years. Pork Checkoff assistant vice president of international marketing, Becca Hendricks, says the Russian decision should not have a major impact on exports: "They have definitely been a political player in the world food market and Russia has banned our product until March of this year and we saw increases this year and had some very impressive growth. It is such a lucrative market but it is also very risky because when there is a political issue they will shut off imports. It's not just pork, it is beef and other food products and it is unfortunate for their consumers. It shouldn't affect the pork market too much, the product will be displaced to other markets. It will be something to watch and is frustrating. US pork gained limited access to the Russian market in March after a 13-month absence. That business is now gone
