Beef Counts Program Makes a Difference for the Hungry

Last week Washington cattlemen and women were cooking up tasty hamburgers at a Spokane Rosauers store with all the proceeds going to the Beef Counts Program to provide beef to Second Harvest’s food bank partners across Eastern Washington.Washington Beef Commission Board member and feeder representative Liz Para shares more about the Beef Counts Program.
Para: “Beef Counts is a program that Washington state cattle producers are participating in. We’re helping to raise money to donate to Second Harvest to provide protein for families in need.”Ranchers in our region’s states participate in the program in a variety of ways — giving back to those in need. Para describes some of the fundraising activities of ranchers to benefit Beef Counts.
Para: “We do a lot of different things. This is a BBQ today but we also do beef giveaways and we also do rollover auctions at the livestock markets.”
On the Beef Counts Facebook page they mentioned a community garage sale that an Idaho 4-H club put on to raise money to purchase a calf, feed it and then they will sell it at market weight and all the money raised will go towards providing hungry people protein through the Beef Counts Program.
If you buy St. Helen’s beef at Rosauers between now and Labor day 10 cents from every pound sold will be donated to Beef Counts to help feed hungry families.
