I called John McPhearson from Montana Troutfitters In Bozeman to get in update on trout fishing conditions. Rainbows, cutthroats, browns. "Are you the guy to talk to about what's going on this spring and summer? If someone is working in this shop, they need to be up on what is happening or they are not worth their salt. We believe that we have seen the peak of runoff and most of the area rivers are coming back into shape pretty quick. The only two we are still waiting on to get good again are the Yellowstone and the Gallatin since they are the two big freestone rivers in the area. Everything else, especially the dam controlled rivers, they are coming back really quick and really strong. We have a few different areas like the upper and lower Madison and the Madison inside Yellowstone Park, we are thinking that the salmon flies might start popping in the next week for us. Give me an overview of what to expect. We run full day float and walk wades as well as half-day float and walk wades, if you are a lake fisherman, we have guys that can guide you on those also if you don't enjoy rivers as much as Lake fishing. Lastly, I know how to fly fish. What if I want to bring a buddy who is a novice? Do you give introductory instruction? Yes we do. They don't have to ever have had a fly rod in their hands before and our guides will get them casting before the end of the day.
