Agribusiness Update for Monday 06/16/14
This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...More counties in Washington, Idaho and Oregon have been added to the Primary Natural Disaster list making them eligible for disaster assistance. The designation comes from f=drought conditions in those areas. Four counties in each state have been listed but also includes contiguous counties as well for a total of 51 additional counties.
Fruitland American Meat, a Jackson, Mo. beef company, is recalling more than 4,000 pounds of beef due to a potential risk for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), also referred to as mad cow disease. USDA made the announcement last week but it appears that most of the beef has been distributed to stores in New England Whole Foods. USDA has classified this recall as a low health risk, but a Class II recall.
