I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report.

Thanks KayDee. The grilling season is off to a great start but if you want to be come an expert it’s good to know what and how to prepare those various cuts of meat. Washington State Beef Commission’s, Jackie Madill says they are here to help.

MADILL: We know that beef can be overwhelming. Unlike some of our fellow proteins we have so many beef cut choices and sometimes you can stand in front of the butchers counter or in front of the meat case at your local grocery store and feel a little bit overwhelmed and instead of reaching for that steak you always cook and you know you enjoy, sometimes we like to experiment, right?

With beef prices as high as they are it might be hard to choose something you are unfamiliar with.

MADILL: We have a great new tool that’s completely mobile enabled which means you can use it on you cell phone or your iPad and it’s called the Interactive Butcher Block. You can find it on our website at It pulls up this great series of tips and tools for choosing the cut that’s right for you.

The Interactive Butcher Block features cooking tips and recipe suggestions that you can save or print off. Now grilling season can expand to new and even more delicious cuts of beef. Enjoy.
