Those of us who live in the Northwest and shop at Albertsons where we can get the fabulous beef cuts offered by Double R Ranch understand full well that high-quality beef costs more at retail and in the restaurant. Where does that beef come from? Well to say the very least it comes from dedicated cattlemen - but do cattlemen get paid more to produce it? Listen carefully cattleman because if you didn't know it already, this should put a smile on your face. A 2014 survey of licensed Certified Angus Beef brand packers says yes - and more than double what they paid in 2010. CAB President John Stika shares more: "In the last two years, combined, packers have paid just under $100 million in certified Angus beef specific premiums back to the production sector. This is clearly responding to the poll through demand that consumers are showing us and paying more for the product at retail and food service and sending a strong economic signal back to the producers that we need more of those kinds of cattle that can hit certified Angus beef standards."
