Four bills that focus on transparency and species recovery will be the subject of a Natural Resources Committee legislative hearing next Tuesday, April 8th. Washington Congressman Doc Hastings explains.

HASTINGS: The thrust of those bills is a result of the working group that I co-chaired this last year where we had input from a number of people across the country and the essence of these four bills is more transparency and local input and the third part of it is litigation control. We have found that litigation was a big driver of listing of species and that recovery had taken a back seat.

The National Corn Growers Association has joined USDA and ATIP along with four other founding partners of the Resilient Economic Agricultural Practices public-private partnership to support and strengthen soil health research that addresses the needs of U.S. farmers.

Now, two signup dates will take place in 2014 for projects covered under USDA's Rural Energy for America Program. Rod Bain has more.
