Holy smokes. No pun intended. Marijuana and your dog or cat. I have done a number of stories recently on the legalization of marijuana, from a pro and con perspective. I don’t know if there’s a cause-and-effect but I received the following email:

Hi David,I hope you are well!  I thought this timely story featured in USA Today would definitely be of interest. The legalization of recreational pot in Colorado and Washington is driving an increase in the number of dogs scarfing down marijuana-infused cookies, brownies and butters.    See link:  USA Today’s  “Puppies on Pot a Growing Hazard”. While pets generally won't eat marijuana plants, they might very well feast upon an entire tray of Marijuana “edibles” such as cookies and brownies that their owners may have accidentally left out or not put away properly.

Unlike humans who can metabolize marijuana in a few hours, dogs feel the effects far longer.   A stoned dog can't vomit or breathe well and could die.
