Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time because I simply don't bother to drink wine that I don't like. This week I want to talk about a Sangiovese not from Italy but from Walla Walla, Washington.
Here in the state of Washington many of us are like you and we have fallen under the spell of things Italian. We are finding that, fortunately for us, the Italian grape varietal Sangiovese grows quite well here. Many winemakers are doing an especially good job making wine from these grapes. One such producer that I have enjoyed is Walla Walla Vintners Sangiovese. They first began producing wine from Sangiovese in 1999 and the recent vintages are showing an understanding and sensitivity to blending of grapes from different vineyard sites. But, what Walla Walla Vintners has that I love is the addition of a small percentage of Syrah in the 2002 and 2003 vintages that I recently tasted. The nose on the wine is wonderfully inviting and I noticed at a recent dinner party that the guests were really dwelling over the fragrance coming from their glasses. The finish is long and lasting but not so big as to overpower your meal. If you are interested in finding out where you can purchase this wine visit their website at Walla Walla Vintners dot com.
