2-4 IAN Zoning
The Coalition For Agriculture's Future will formally oppose the development of Lake Hazel Estates, a 55-acre, 44-home proposed residential subdivision in the southeastern part of Canyon County, calling the proposal a "classic example of the worst kind of spot zoning," officials with the Coalition announced today. The Coalition plans to send the Canyon County Board of Commissioners a formal letter registering its opposition to the proposal. The letter will also call on the County to halt any further approval process until a thorough review of the project can be conducted.
CAF Chairman George Crookham noted: "The proposed residential subdivision is absolutely incompatible in every respect with upwards of 12 square miles of agricultural lands that surround the site. It is a relic of the darkest days of a 'development at any cost' mentality that resulted in the loss of thousands of acres of valuable agricultural land over the past two decades."
The Coalition measured various aspects of the plan against various standard factors that are principles of land use management involving agricultural lands including factors such as: Is the residential nature of the project in keeping with the general nature of the area in which it will be situated. Mr. Crookham cited one incidence to me of several homes being proposed directly across the street from a dairy.
