Oregon Cherries
Oregon Cherries. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.Danny Wheeden with Oregon Cherry Growers has recently taken on new responsibilities with the organization in addition to his existing position. He talks about how Oregon cherries are split out in comparison to Washington cherries.
WHEEDEN: As far as on our side from Oregon Cherry Growers, I mean, you look at our revenue stream the processed is 90% of the business. We're 90% marketing and processing and maybe 10% on the fresh. Because on the fresh side it's all about packing and volume and getting it to market. And the on processing it's a year-round thing. And so even the volume of actual processing cherries grown for processing is declining because fresh is growing we've transitioned to getting a lot of supply out of that off-line from the fresh side of getting that fruit to supply the needs of the processor.
He says the beauty is that it all winds up funneling back to their member growers.
WHEEDEN: We're a healthy strong company and we've put ourselves in a great position to succeed for our grower farmers and grower members and we're excited about the future.
The 2014 cherry season will be here before you know it and it will be interesting to see how things shape up.
