Second Harvest

Second Harvest

I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report.

Thanks KayDee. 2nd Harvest helps families in need all year long but this is an especially difficult time according to Melissa Cloninger, Director of Donor Relations.

CLONINGER: This is always a time of year when need spikes. People are struggling to pay their heating bills and other things that have a tendency to increase in the winter and still at the same time provide enough food for their families. In our world our needs are always about being able to resource enough food to help people in need and it’s also about having enough funds to transport, repackage, and then distribute that mostly donated food.

Cloninger says they have been helped through a number of great partnerships.

CLONINGER: A lot of those relationships and partnerships are with grower donors and one of those relationships is with AgriBeef. All of the wonderful folks in that industry have made it possible for us to partner with them in a program that is called “Beef Counts.” In the three years we have been able to provide 230-thousand pounds of round bottom roasts.

She also adds that if you are wanting to give this year that they are really looking for some capital funds to help with costs.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
