Overall Grain Market Update

I'm KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for September 3, 2013. ? The Commodity markets were closed yesterday for the Labor Day holiday. So today, we'll visit with Central Washington Grain Growers Assistant Manager Paul Katovich. He shares some insight into the wheat and corn market. Katovich: "Our market has been defined by row crops -- corn and beans -- for quite a while well over a year. Corn is king -- it is always kinda that way where corn goes affects all those around it. We've been a downward sloping trend for essentially a year." Katovich say that since last August wheat futures been going down but recently have seen what might be considered a bottoming out in corn and wheat. Right now in the market, he says it is all about weather. Katovich: "Recently weather patterns in the mid-west are affecting expected outcome of soybean production and potentially the outcome of the upcoming corn crop. So that is what people are watching more closer now than say a month ago or even longer is the weather pattern in the Mid-West. Wheat, I think, probably has a story later in the year globally and domestically but it is just not on the front burner of discussions."
