Giving to the Food Bank

I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report. I’m Greg Martin with the AgriBeef Minute. The Idaho Food Bank has been the recipient of Navy veteran, Tony Ducoin who regularly donates a couple hundred dollars to help kids get a good meal. The Food Bank’s Cathe Scott explains. SCOTT: Tony is primarily a donor to nutrition services, nutrition programs and that covers our backpack program which sends an elementary child home with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners, 2 snacks and some shelf stable milk so it feeds that child for an entire weekend. Tony recently met one of the recipients of the backpack program who was a bit closer than he thought. SCOTT: Tony had been wanting to meet a child and apparently was talking about this at home and discovered that his housekeepers granddaughter was a recipient of a backpack. Not only was Tony excited to meet Amy but Amy was excited to meet the food bank. Scott says they really need more people like Tony to help support the programs. SCOTT: According to the Idaho Department of Education over half of our school age kids are eligible for a free or reduced lunch. We know through our partnership with Feeding America and a hunger study that they do that 1 in 6 Idaho children under the age of 18 doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from or doesn’t have the healthy nutrition to lead a healthy and normal lifestyle. I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute. Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef.
