5-20 IAT Dairy Help

The USDA has put up $10 million and will join with U.S. dairy farmers to invest in sustainability research for the future of the dairy industry. Here’s Tom Gallagher, CEO of  Dairy Management Inc:  "This is ten million dollars from the Department of Agriculture, that after the research is done  will exponentially grow that ten million dollars in terms of its value --  meaning the farmer will see benefits way beyond the ten million dollars to their bottom line over probably the next several decades. So, we couldn't be more excited - it couldn't have been done without the farmer funded checkoff program, Dairy Management Incorporated, and all the state and regional organizations we work with."  Gallagher notes that the dairy checkoff’s commitment to sustainability began nearly 5 years ago, demonstrating the dairy industry leadership in this area. The new USDA-funded dairy sustainability research will be conducted by the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy and land grant institutions including, the University of Wisconsin, University of Michigan, Penn State, Cornell, University of Arkansas, University of New Hampshire and Washington State University.
