Farm Moms Share Conversations with Consumer Moms

There are many agvocates for agriculture who are engaging the public in conversation about ag practices as well as hot topics. Whether you are a farmer and rancher unsure how to begin a conversation or a consumer with questions about antibiotics or GMOs -- the organization Common Ground provides a place to start a conversation between women who grow food, and the women who buy it.
Ohio farmer and Common Ground volunteer Kristin Reese shares more about the organization and its informational website.
Reese: “Common Ground is a grassroots movement of farm moms across the country and we kind of all banded together and decided that lots of people, especially women and moms and wives -- the people making the food decisions for their families have questions about food and where it comes from. And really what is the truth behind antibiotics, GMOs, organics and things like that, so it is really an avenue for us farm women to talk about what we do on our farms and hopefully answer some misconceptions that consumers have about where their food comes from and generating conversations.”
Each volunteer farm woman uses the social media vehicle she is most comfortable with, Reese says she is a blogger, but the organization and others use Facebook and Twitter too.
Reese: “There is a website and it is findourcommonground.com. It’s an excellent resource, I encourage you all to visit it. Common Ground is made up of volunteers of all farming practices, of all shapes and sizes. There is usually someone who can help answer all the questions anyone has. We claim to be not experts in everything, but just what we do on our own farms.”
