It’s probably too much to ask to grow food in the middle of pure desert, so the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development and Seedstock Bring Together Innovative Indoor Agriculture Leaders to Confront Challenges in Local Food Production. Entrepreneurs, agriculture industry leaders and Nevada state officials plan to come together to propel forward the development ofcreative and sustainable indoor growing solutions. The Nevada Indoor Agriculture Conference will aim to increase local food production in the dry desert landscape that abounds in Nevada and, in turn, bolster the state’s internal food supply as well as the local economy. Indoor agriculture has the potential to meet future food demands,reduce environmental impacts, and create new economic engines.
Speakers and panelists who have confirmed their attendance represent a Who’s Who of investors, industry leaders and entrepreneurs who already are proving that indoor agriculture can help conserve precious water resources, negate the need for pesticides, enable local chefs and retailers to obtain fresher food faster and strengthen local food systems. They include Marielle Dupéré is Co-founder and CEO of New Green Farms, an indoor multi-level food production company, and co-founder of Vertical Farm Systems, a systems development and integration technology company and Matt Geschke, managing partner of Brotherhood Products, whose company is shaking up the hydroponic equipment world with its focus on developing sustainable indoor growing technologies to that address such intractable growing challenges as lack of adequate irrigation resources, adverse climatic conditions, remote site locations and volatile infrastructure.
