Vilsack On Dodge & Jewell Slated For Post

Vilsack On Dodge & Jewell Slated For Post plus Food Forethought. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

You know the Dodge ad from the Super Bowl was a good one when people are still talking about it a week later. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack had only positive things to say about it.

VILSACK: I think rural America and all of us that represent and are concerned about rural American farmers need to encourage a proactive message coming out of rural America. I think it’s great that we had an extraordinary ad at the Super Bowl. If I’m going to buy a truck, I’m telling you right now I’m buying a Dodge. (laughter) It’s a great ad. It was a great ad. It was a proactive ad. It was a heartwarming ad. It was a dynamic ad. But we need more of that. We need to explain to our young people That in rural America they have the opportunity to address one of the great moral challenges of our time - how we’re going to feed hungry people.

President Obama today announced that he has chosen Sally Jewell to be the next Secretary of the Interior. For the past eight years, Ms. Jewell has been the CEO of REI, one of America's most successful and environmentally conscious retailers. Former Washington Governor Chris Gregoire and former Congressman Norm Dicks, also from Washington, were on the short list for the post. Jewell is the first woman in Obama's crop of second-term Cabinet nominees.

Now dealing with climate change. Gary Crawford reports.
