2-4 SS Safe Fishing
Not to overdo hyperbole and/or superlatives but it looks like there is ice fishing going on everywhere.
With this winters cold snap that has lasted weeks and weeks, some people are complaining bitterly but if you look in the newspaper and on local television you will find that some people are reveling. What are they celebrating? The fact that they can go ice fishing on virtually every lake and pond around. But before you grab your gear and your ice house, let’s ask Marcus Williams, fishing expert from Sportsman’s Warehouse about the ice fishing season. 1st question, what is the icefishing season? “As far as ice fishing seasons are concerned, it starts as soon as there is thick enough ice. It’s not like there is an opening day or anything like that. So any time there is ice, you are legitimate? Yes pretty much. I am not aware of anything that says otherwise. Everybody has their own personal comfort level as far as how thick is thick and how thick is thin. But most guys figure that 4 or 5 inches of good hard ice is pretty reasonable. This year we have been really fortunate. With the cold temperatures we had earlier and no snow and no rain on top of the ice it froze very solid and really hard. Some guys were comfortable getting out there on even thinner ice but I do not recommend that because it can be a real liability.
