Talk about a great way to make a living. How about being a photographer for hunting and fishing shows on ESPN, Outdoor Life Network and the Outdoor Channel. .... Gilbert Herndon has spent most of his professional life as a videographer, field producer and editor while producing television shows that feature hunting and fishing adventures. I have worked with him for over 20 years. His travels have taken him all over the world with professional hunters, outfitters and guides. Needless to say he has met his share of interesting folks. One such encounter occurred way north in Alaska. “One time I went to Alaska to an island which is named St. Lawrence Island which is an island owned by the Eskimos. It is 35 miles from Russia off the coast of Alaska in the Bering Straits. We went to this lady’s house. Her husband was one of the greatest carvers in the world from walrus tusks. We got there and she was kind of all skeptical about us but we befriended her and talked to her for a long time and then it was time for us to leave and she was like, why do you have to leave, you just got here, you people are always in such a hurry. I was like you’re on Eskimo time when you are up there, there is no rush to do anything. I kind of liked that and think maybe the rest of us ought to look at that a little bit. Maybe put away the cell phones and reflect a little bit. Yeah, there you go.”
