The Agribusiness Update for Monday 1/7/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

A lot of excitement has been building in the commodity market for an absolutely astounding corn crop in 2013. The number of acres expected to be planted to corn later this year is enormous - but not unprecedented. Some accounts are suggesting 97-million acres to as high as 100-million acres of corn.

A recent survey of moms shows they trust food and mom blogs for information about food issues like pesticides, genetic modification and additives. Food and blogs by other moms were ranked higher than government sources, medical sites and corporate sources for gathering information on food.

Farm leaders have predicted all along there’d be less money to write a farm bill in 2013. Now those predictions may be about to come true. The House and Senate plan to start rewriting the failed 2012 Farm Bill in late February. But that’s exactly when extraordinary Treasury measures to extend the nation’s borrowing limit will be exhausted - followed by automatic spending cuts in early March - followed by expiration of a short-term government funding measure in late March.

That’s today’s Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
