Young Cattlemen's Conference

Welcome to Open Range, I’m KayDee Gilkey. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. If you have ever thought about getting into the cattle business and you are between the ages of 18 and 40 you might want to attend the 2013 Pacific Northwest Young Cattlemen's Conference.

WHITE: Pretty much anyone, we say anyone that’s young at heart should come and what we’re trying to do is just provide and opportunity for young cattlemen to get out there and network. Not only with each other but industry representatives and give them a chance to find out really what’s out there, what they can be doing hopefully. We’ll have some that’ll maybe walk away with an internship or career opportunities from it.

That’s Thomas White who is the State Chair for the Young Cattleman’s. The conference gets underway on the 18th of January and includes a number of tours.

WHITE: We’re meeting at the Red Lion in Pendleton and then we’re going to head off and tour the Easterday feedlot in Washington and then come back and tour Western Stockman’s and continue on. We’re going to go through AgriNorthwest’s grain elevator and their export facility.

White says there are other tour stops. Then on the 19th there will be 9th Annual Cattlemen's Workshop in La Grande.

WHITE: We have people that will come in that will join. They just kind of want to know what’s going on in the cattle industry. You don’t have to have been raised on a farm or a ranch to be a member but that does make up the majority of the membership.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
