Getting To Grandma's & Block On Farm Bill

Getting To Grandma’s & Block On Farm Bill. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Well if you are planning on heading out to grandma’s house for the holiday this weekend you might want to call ahead and check on road conditions. It seems a major storm system has blown through the northwest and drop considerable snow and ice along with some down trees along a number of major highways. And in some areas like Portland the snow has turned to rain. So make your plans accordingly.

Time is running out for Congress although some reports say that they will not be going home until they get a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. Farmers want to know whether there will be a new deal on the farm bill or just an extension and former Ag Secretary John Block thinks there will be time to get it done.

BLOCK: I personally doubt if we get a farm bill until after the first of the year sometime, but we will get one. We always have. You look at Europe and they’re just barely treading water over there and I don’t think we’re too far behind unless we get our act together.

The National Farmers Union Board of Directors has passed a resolution opposing an extension of the 2008 Farm Bill in lieu of passage of a new five-year farm bill.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
