11-26 SS Deer DNA

Getting a giant mule deer by spot and stalk. Eddie Sanchez from Winterhawk Outfitters in Colorado is a strong believer in fair chase rules of hunting.… Meaning no hunting in high fence operations. Incidentally, that is exactly the philosophy that is presented by the Eastman family that owns Eastman’s Hunting Journals. Probably one of the biggest mule deer that has been taken out of this camp here. He scored 190 and 3/8. His measurements are 32 3/8 wide, outside to outside, he’s a 7 x 5 and he has 2 nontypical points. Those points are actually indicative of the gene that is in this area. If you look at the pictures you will see that same gene in several other deer, so that gene is a prevalent gene around here. That width is in the same area. We aged the deer and figured they were  8 to 8 1/2 years old. So actually he was on his way down. Last year he may have actually been a bigger deer. He had tremendous mass. For those of you who know about deer and deer hunting, mass  is e the thickness of the  antlers and that is in port and to those of us who like nice animals and like the way they look. It is a mature deer, it means that it has a good blood line. Hopefully he has procreated many many times and very well so that that gene keeps on going in this area.
