Products for Tree Fruits. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Now that most of the tree fruit season is done in the northwest it is time to start looking at how you are going to improve your 2013 crop. Deneen Sebastian, North American Fungicide Portfolio Manager with Cheminova talks about their company and fungicides.

SEBASTIAN: Cheminova is a Denmark based. We entered the U.S. markets with glyphos, one of the first generic glyphosates. That was over 10 years ago and from that point we’ve grown our portfolio into a number of other products

Sebastian says they have three fungicides in their showcase that producers in the NW might be interested in.

SEBASTIAN: The first product is TOPGUARD and it’s been registered in apples since 2010 but in this last year we added cherries and some of the stone fruits so it would be of interest to the growers up there. It’s one of the best powdery mildew products there is on the marketplace and it’s also good for the rotation and resistant management the growers need to do up there.

And she says it’s not too early to start thinking about it.

SEBASTIAN: Timing is fairly early. It should be one of the first ones you spray. The really unique activity of TOPGUARD is that it has good residual activity so the growers can go early and it gives them extended control but also as they know they have to keep spraying because different pests come along. I think what’s also interesting up there is that as HoneyCrisp really grows as a market leader up there it’s one of the most susceptible to powdery mildew so it’s really important.

She says the same goes for cherries.
