11-12 IAN RMA Pilot 3

USDA’s Risk Management Agency  reminds producers in Idaho of the November 15 sales closing dates for the Pasture, Rangeland, Forage pilot program, Vegetation Index program, and the Apiculture  pilot program for the 2013 crop year. The Vegetation Index allows producers to personalize their policy by choosing a specific 3-month coverage interval, coverage level between 70 to 90 percent and a productivity factor anywhere between 60 and 150 percent of the county base value.  During application, producers will also need to allocate the percentage of the total value for their operation.

Here’s RMA spokesperson Jo Lynne Seufer: “The PRF and API pilot programs which is available in all counties in Idaho  are based on vegetation greenness indices. The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation’s Board of Directors recently approved several changes to the PRF pilot. PRF is designed to give forage and livestock producers the ability to buy insurance protection for losses of forage produced for haying and grazing. The API pilot provides a safety net for beekeepers’ primary income sources – honey, pollen collection, wax, and breeding stock.”
