Land Link

Land Link

I'm KayDee and welcome to Open Range, Here's Greg with today's report.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. Virginia Meyers with the Nebraska Center for Rural Affairs (NCRA) has put together a great program called Land Link.

MEYERS: The Land Link program operates nationwide and what the Land Link program does is connects beginning farmers and ranchers with retiring farmers and ranch owners and land owners from all over the country.

Meyers talks about how the process works.

MEYERS: Both land owners and beginning farmers and ranchers fill out an application and then we compile all the landowner information into a document and send that to the beginning farmers and ranchers and they are free to contact the land owners if they see a situation that interests them.

Sometimes it might be a mentorship or it may just be the retiree wants to make sure a new farmer has a good opportunity.

MEYERS: Our biggest challenge right now is identifying retiring farmers and ranchers and landowners to participate in the program. We have over 300 beginning farmers and ranchers participating and about 30 landowners. So I would encourage anybody who’s listening who’s participating in land Link both as a beginning farmer or rancher or as a land owner to contact me at the Center for Rural Affairs.

The website is cfra.org. I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. I'll be back after this.

That's today's Open Range Agribeef minute. AgriBeef. Real Families; great people; exceptional beef. I'm KayDee Gilkey on the Ag Information Network.
