11-5 Kid Hunters
The Eastman Hunting Journals Guy Eastman and I discussed modern day kids and the great outdoors. I’m David Sparks with Sportsmen’s Spotlight talking with Guy. What’s going on in your mind as it relates to kids. Is that going away or is there a resurgence in terms of kids going hunting? I think there is a core of young people who are hunting, mostly in rural areas. I don’t think youth participation is down a lot, it may be down a little bit in states like Wyoming, Idaho and Montana but I think that in states like California and the Midwest, those states, I think there is a lot less hunting participation. Kids who grow up with guns and their parents teach them how to handle guns properly and they are not afraid of guns, and I honestly believe not many of them cause problems with guns. Look into gun violence. Most of it is kids who didn’t grow up with guns, know nothing about guns. Half these gangsters shoot themselves more often than they shoot someone else. They don’t know what they are doing. It is an educational problem when it comes to the guns. Back to your point, yes, I think that the kids who are involved in the outdoors are more the apple pie and bread and butter type kids who go on to be productive members of society. I do think there is a direct correlation between how they are brought up and brought up in the outdoors to how they turn out as adults.
