10-19 IAN Lean Beef

Beef is what is for dinner. We have all heard that ad, but there is a reason for it. You might be surprised at how low fat beef is as a choice for dinner.

Traci Bracco called me the other day and fills me in on some of the nutritional benefits of beef, but I was thoroughly surprised when I heard her message about how lean it is. Beef has always been a popular item for over 100 years but many people don’t realize that, today’s lean beef is much leaner  than when we were kids. We still think of beef the same way as when we saw it in the grocery store when we were young But today’s beef is much, much cleaner. Lean beef is much more available in the United States because of many of the changes in the past 40 years in things such as cattle breeding, management practices on the ranch and also beef is being trimmed much much leaner at the retail grocery store. All of this is being driven by consumer preferences. The consumers drive the changes in the beef industry. Two thirds of the beef sold at the grocery store meets the government guidelines for lean. Many of the cuts they are buying our lean cuts, T-bone, tri-tip, tenderloins.
