News release from the Farm Service Agency:
Hispanic and Women Farmers and Ranchers Who Claim Past Discrimination at USDA
Claims Filing Period Open September 24, 2012 to March 25, 2013
Boise, Idaho - September 25, 2012. Yesterday Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the opening of the Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers claims process. Idaho Farm Service Agency will join with Washington State Farm Service Agency during the 2nd Annual Inland Northwest Small Farmer Conference in Spokane to provide information about the process.
The process offers a voluntary alternative to litigation for each Hispanic or female farmer and rancher who can prove that USDA denied their applications for loan or loan servicing assistance for discriminatory reasons for certain time periods between 1981 and 2000. Any of those individuals who allege discrimination by the USDA during this period can file claims between September 24, 2012 and March 25, 2013.
