10-10 FB CA Milk

Woe to the California dairy community, we thought we had it bad  in Idaho, but in California it is even worse.

Idaho dairy producers have weathered at least four of the most volatile years in recent history.  That said,The Idaho Statesman recently reported that things in California are even more desperate for their dairy producers. They’ve been hit on 2 sides. Like every dairy producer in the country along with beef cattlemen, wildly expensive feed prices have come up, partially a result of the drought. However, California producers have also been hit with lower than expected  milk prices. In fact milk prices are lower than the rest of the nation which only makes things worse in California.  I chatted with executive director of the Idaho dairyman’s Association, Bob Naerebout. “Dairymen all across the country are suffering and what is happening in California is that they are $1.50 per hundredweight below us so their dairy prices considerably below what Idaho is. Idaho is not in the extreme conditions that California is in right now.
