No Farm Bill & Bad Air

No Farm Bill & Bad Air

No Farm Bill & Bad Air. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

It’s official. There will not be a discussion or any action taken on the Food, Farms and Jobs Act before the election. Washington Congressman Doc Hastings confirmed that yesterday.

HASTINGS: I just heard today in a conversation that I had with the speaker and others that the Farm Bill will not be taken up now until after the election and the lame duck session. Now exactly what the process is I don’t know. Whatever is done, if something can be passed before the end of the year, they could very easily make those provisions that have expired, make them retroactive

Wildfires are continuing to plague many areas of the northwest and as we mentioned last week it’s not just the fires that are the problem. Smoke is covering the entire region causing respiratory distress for many people. The Department of Environmental Quality warned that people in the Northwest, especially those who live near the fires, might find it a little harder to breathe during strenuous outdoor activities. On the DEQ's sliding air quality index scale, a reading of zero to 50 is considered good. Outdoor burn bans are in place in Washington as well as air quality advisories.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
