Thailand’s Successful New Marketing Channels

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the U.S. Potato Update.

A new focus on expanding marketing channels for U.S. dehydrated potatoes in Thailand has netted new customers and new recipes.

TK Kuwahara, United States Potato Board International Marketing Manager for the Dehydrated Potato Program shares more results from last year’s Mash the Magic seminar featuring U.S. Dehydrated potatoes as mashed potatoes.

Kuwahara: “As a result we had several hotels and food services operations very interested in using dehydrated potatoes because it really helps them to cut down costs in comparisons to using fresh local Thai potatoes. For example, they don’t need to wash, peel, cut, cook, and mash potatoes to use them in recipes. Simply adding water and knowing that year around that U.S. potatoes will be consistent.”

A challenge that is good news for U.S. potato producers is keeping up with demand generated by these educational seminars featuring U.S. potatoes.

Kuwahara: “We are excited that through our discussions with local processors and their distributors we are finding solutions to the supply issues to ensure that the U.S. can supply all the demand that has been created through these new channels.”
