Year of the Apple Art Contest

Year of the Apple Art Contest

Year of the Apple Art Contest. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The Washington Apple Education Foundation is inviting students to participate in the 18th Annual Year of the Apple Art Contest. Jennifer Witherbee, Executive Director of the Foundation has the details.

WITHERBEE: The deadline is coming up very soon. It is August 1st and that is the deadline for students that were in grades kindergarten through 12th grade in the last school year to submit artwork that depicts apples in many various forms for our art contest.

This years contest is sponsored by Dow Agrosciences.

WITHERBEE: They provide the funding to WAEF so that we can recognize our student winners with cash prizes and they also produce at the end of the contest a poster with the award winning artwork.

All the information for submitting your artwork is available on their website at www.waef.org. Witherbee says they do get quite a few entries.

WITHERBEE: This year we expect we’ll probably receive 400 to 500 entries in the contest and some of those are obvious contenders for the grand prize. But others come from just really talented students or even students whose parents are teachers who are looking for a craft project for students to participate in and we love to receive those too.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
