6-27 SS Carp Practice

 I read an article the other day touting the fact that shooting fish in a barrel is a great way to practice your skills with a bow.

 The outdoor section of the paper was talking about a woman in Montana who loves to go carp bow fishing saying that non game fish are a great target for hunters during the off-season. Randy King has bow hunted for carp and has the following opinion:  “Any time you pull your bow back, I think it’s a good idea, I don’t really know that shooting carp is the same experience. There are a couple of reasons why. 1st off is refraction. Normally when you are looking at a deer, you analyze it or you figure out how far away it is then put a pin on it and let it fly. Or if you shoot a recurve you figure out where the arrow should go and you shoot. With carp you have to look at them and then  wherever you think you should aim you have to aim below that just because water reflects the light and it is just a messed up situation. So you are not even aiming at a target and then you have a string attached which affects arrow flight. As far as actual practice,  I don’t really buy onto the fact that it is great practice for shooting at a deer. What I do buy onto is that it is a heck of a lot of fun.
